Dr. Jerome Weiskopf has more than 40 years of experience when it comes to plastic surgery. Learn about the wide range of services he provides.
Over the past 40 years, Dr. Jerome Weiskopf has treated nearly 50,000 patients in the Rockford region. Certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1975 and by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1977, Weiskopf has a wide range of expertise. He has operated on trauma patients, burn victims, patients with skin diseases and congenital deformities, as well as patients seeking beauty and enhancement.
“I like doing things that have a social benefit for people,” Weiskopf says. “The patients are what it’s all about. I have patients who I took care of years ago coming back for completely different procedures, which is the biggest compliment I can get.”
In his earlier years as a plastic surgeon, Weiskopf’s patients were mainly individuals needing thumb and finger replants or surgery after trauma.
“There was a time, before seatbelts and airbags, that I would do four emergencies a day,” he says.
Now, Weiskopf sees more and more skin cancer patients, as well as patients seeking breast reconstruction, liposuction and other cosmetic procedures.
With many years of experience, Weiskopf stays away from “new” procedures and products.
“I’ve been doing this so long that if something says ‘new,’ I just don’t do it,” he says. “I go to cosmetic surgery conferences, and it’s always interesting because you find out what ‘new’ procedure from five years ago didn’t actually work. You have to be careful about ‘new’ things.”
Instead, Weiskopf opts for procedures that he knows are effective.
“I even see people who had procedures elsewhere that didn’t work out, and now they need someone to fix it,” he says. “I’m lucky to get a lot of referrals from people who know I do a good job.”
Weiskopf has been a clinical associate on the faculty of the University of Illinois College of Medicine-Rockford, and has been the director of the Burn Unit at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center for more than 20 years. He has served on numerous committees of county and state medical societies and has been president of the Winnebago County Medical Society twice, as well as being a delegate to the Illinois State Medical Society consistently since 1976.
