Shaun Kurien, MD, says a combination of things make specializing in cardiovascular medicine rewarding.
“I like the physiology, the types of patients, and the challenging diversity of the field,” he says. “I like figuring things out.” Initially, it was a desire to help people that directed Dr. Kurien toward a career in medicine, and that has stayed with him, making him a compassionate physician who believes it is extremely important to listen to his patients.
Dr. Kurien earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and his cardiology fellowship at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill.
Joining Rockford Cardiovascular Associates in August 2011, Dr. Kurien specializes in general cardiology and cardiac imaging. He is accepting new patients.
Rockford Cardiovascular Associates, a part of OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, offers special expertise and subspecialty training in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac, peripheral vascular, and carotid artery diseases in the Rockford and northern Illinois area for more than 30 years. Currently staffing 14 cardiologists and five advanced practice providers, as well as a full complement of cardiovascular nurses and associated staff; comprising nearly 100 employees, the team at Rockford Cardiovascular Associates is the largest practice of its kind in the region. Focusing on adult cardiology, the group has subspecialties in prevention, coronary and endovascular intervention, heart failure, electrophysiology and clinical research. Patients may receive specialty care through the Pacemaker and Defibrillator Clinic, the Anticoagulation Management Clinic, the Heart Failure Clinic and the Lipid Clinic.
Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Emergent, consult and regularly scheduled appointments are readily available with cardiologists and nurse practitioners, so most patients can be seen quickly and efficiently. ❚
