For more than 45 years, Rock Valley College has been the Rockford area’s best choice for high-quality, affordable, fully-accredited and transferable education. No matter where you want to go, Rock Valley College can help you get there.
With more than 90 college-prep areas and 30 career programs, Rock Valley prepares its students for transfer to a four-year university or for launching into a highly-skilled workforce. The dedicated faculty members hold master’s degrees, doctorates and real-life experience, and students can capture that knowledge through the hands-on attention of its small classroom sizes. The average class is 21 students, so there are no big lecture halls and no graduate assistants leading classes.
Rock Valley works hard to provide an affordable education for every student. The cost of two years at Rock Valley is lower than the cost of one year at a state university, and roughly the same cost as one semester at a private university or college. Even more importantly, there are plenty of opportunities for scholarships and assistance. Last year, the RVC Foundation awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to students in need.
A tech-savvy environment provides students with the leading technologies in environmental efficiency and classroom connectivity, for a 21st-century education. When the new Karl J. Jacobs Center for Science and Math opens soon, Rock Valley is expected to become the first community college in the nation, and the only school in Illinois, with two LEED Gold-certified buildings – that’s the highest rating in environmentally efficient construction.
Outside the classroom, Rock Valley students excel in a number of activities. The school’s athletic program – part of the NJCAA Division III – has won seven national championships and produced more than 120 All-American athletes, who compete in eight sports, four for men and four for women. The art, music and theater programs also excel, and have received national recognition, as did a unique White House performance in 2009. Students have more than 30 organizations to choose from, plus options for service learning, internships and work-study. Study abroad opportunities take students to places like China, Spain, France, Italy and England.
Rock Valley accommodates busy student schedules with a variety of daytime, evening and weekend classes at its main campus, at the Stenstrom Center in south Rockford and at the Learning and Opportunity Center downtown.
Help is available as students plan their educations and get the experience they need to succeed in college and the workforce. Going to college is a big decision. Rock Valley College is ready to help students make the transition to higher education, smoothly and successfully. ❚
