Nita was born and reared on the North Side of Chicago, in the Albany Park area. She went to Von Stueben High School, then Chicago City College, and finally Loyola University of Chicago, majoring in biology/pre medicine with a sociology minor. She moved to the northwest suburbs after high school, and to Rockford in 2001 to be closer to family.
She worked as a PA until 2006, when caring for her mom made it necessary to leave the demands of the health care field. She was fortunate enough to be offered a position as an account executive with Rock Valley Publishing, which she found she very much enjoyed. Nita joined Northwest Quarterly/Smart Living Weekly in March 2017.
She is a devoted Chicago sports fan, and while she grew up a White Sox fan (though she was a North sider), she admits that she has learned to love the Cubbies even more.
