Annual Healthcare Guide

Brynwood Myofascial Therapy

6072 Brynwood Dr., Ste. 102, Rockford, (815) 904-6163,

Myofascial Release is a whole-body, highly specialized, hands-on technique for the evaluation and treatment of pain. The term comes from “myo,” meaning muscle, and “fascia,” meaning connective tissue.

Myofascial Release is not massage; each session is performed on skin without oils, creams or machinery.

Myofascial Release addresses problems that have not responded to previous surgeries, therapies and medications, and it can bring lasting changes. Gentle, sustained pressure, applied slowly into connective tissue restrictions, allows the fascia to elongate, thus eliminating pain and restoring motion. Restrictions can occur when there is physical trauma to the body, such as surgical procedures, motor vehicle accidents, falls, inflammation or infection.

Fascia restrictions do not show up on X-rays, MRIs or CAT scans. Fascial strains can slowly tighten and spread, and when that happens, flexibility and spontaneity of movement are lost, causing more trauma, pain and movement restriction.

We offer both physical and occupational therapy. Eliminate fascial restrictions and return to a pain-free, active lifestyle. “Loosen Up” with Brynwood.

Edward Yavitz, M.D.

4105 N. Perryville Road, Loves Park, Ill., (815) 395-8338,

At Yavitz Eye Center, 4105 N. Perryville Road, at Perryville and Riverside, we combine state-of-the-art testing with precision surgery and always lead with compassion.
Our patients are treated like family. Instead of using an answering service, Yavitz gives every patient 24/7 access to his personal cellphone. We don’t overschedule, so typical waiting room times are less than 15 minutes.

Yavitz has been inventing techniques and equipment since his days at Harvard Medical School and now has 37 patents, with new ones pending on the first treatment for dry macular degeneration. As a corneal specialist, he founded the eye bank in Rockford (now part of Eversight) and continues to perform corneal transplants. He draws patients from Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa for LASIK, and his fees are up to 50 percent less than most other offices. Strong word-of-mouth referrals from 25+ years of excellent service and results power this practice.

Yavitz knew he wanted to become an eye surgeon from high school on. His father had very poor vision and required three different pairs of glasses to function at different tasks. He hoped his son would one day be able to improve his vision.

Back in 1990, when his father developed cataracts, Yavitz did indeed keep his promise and performed his father’s cataract surgeries, resulting in his ability to play golf and drive without glasses. His father, now 95 years old, continues to do so.
