FROM FHN, FREEPORT:
FREEPORT — Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts in 1912 to give girls the same opportunities as boys to develop physically, mentally and spiritually. FHN is proud to be a sponsor of the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois 100th anniversary celebration this year.
The Girl Scouts trace their history back to a phone call made by Low on March 12, 1912 which led to 18 girls signing up to be U.S. Girl Guides.
100 years later, the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI) and FHN are celebrating the date by awarding a lifetime membership to Girl Scouts and a special gift basket to the first baby girl born at FHN Memorial Hospital on March 12, 2012.
Freeport’s inaugural member of Troop 2012 is Queenmela Jackson. She was born Monday morning, March 12, to proud mom Ranissa Menendez and dad Jamel Jackson, Sr. at FHN Memorial Hospital.
